Orthodontics for Adults

Posted .

Orthodontics are more readily available for adults than they have ever been before, but cosmetic reasons may not overrule oral health reasons. Here at Gronberg Orthodontics, we strive to provide the best dental care you need as well as the treatments you desire.

Although more readily available, some of the issues you face in comparison to if you had ortho work done as a child, include age-related considerations, bite correction concerns, tooth extraction issues, appliance placement, and root damage vulnerabilities.

Age-related concerns include insufficient bone between the roots, higher risk of gingivitis infections, and bone loss. With your bones no longer growing, it will take longer for the teeth to adjust. An improper bite fix may need the process of extracting teeth to make room for teeth adjustments. Previous tooth extractions can be hard for your orthodontist to adjust your braces into unless a prosthetic tooth is added.

Adults with braces may also experience root resorption where the root of the tooth is reabsorbed by the body. This means the tooth is not anchored down and may fall out over time. Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is another risk, so have your dentist/orthodontist assess the possibility of TMD.

Gronberg Orthodontics wants to provide the best possible care for you and your teeth, and our dental professionals here in Highland Village, Texas can work with you to get your wanted look and comfortability. Give us a call at 972-966-2326 to set up an appointment today!
